Often I don’t know much about what I am thinking until I write it, and so what you read in this book has been invaluable to my sense of sanity and my ongoing attempt to make sense out of psychotherapy, what Freud rightly called “the impossible profession,” and more generally the necessity of surviving what Peter Berger (1961) called “the precarious vision.” Thank God I stumbled upon writing.
