About the Author
Originally trained as a psychoanalyst, and now an existential therapist practising in Manhattan, New York, Professor Groth sets out an historical perspective that few contemporary therapists would be aware of. Influenced by Martin Heidegger, Medard Boss, Thomas Szasz, and R.D. Laing, Professor Groth confronts the significant challenges of a psychotherapy that has largely lost its way due to having succumbed to medicalisation, psychiatric and behavioural reductionism. He reveals the original core ideas of existential therapy, and makes suggestions about how, with integrity, it might survive and flourish into the future. Professor Groth has lectured and presented seminars for psychiatrists and clinical psychologists in Australia, Canada, Hungary and the United States. Since 1994, he has been on the faculty of the Department of Psychology at Wagner College in New York where he is full professor. (amazon)
