Trump not losing sleep over Aust report
US President Donald Trump has shrugged off a University of Sydney-based think tank's warning China could wipe out almost all American, allied and partner bases, airstrips, ports and military installations in the western Pacific in the opening hours of a conflict.
Mr Trump, asked by a reporter at the White House on Tuesday if the United States Studies Centre report is something that "keeps you up at night", responded that no other nation comes close to competing with the US military.
"Well, nothing keeps me up at night," Mr Trump told the reporter.
"I'll tell you, we could wipe out anything."
The report, titled Averting Crisis: American Strategy, Military Spending and Collective Defence in the Indo-Pacific, predicts the growing arsenal of accurate long-range missiles possessed by China's People's Liberation Army poses a major threat to American and allied military facilities in the western Pacific.
"As these facilities could be rendered useless by precision strikes in the opening hours of a conflict, the PLA missile threat challenges America's ability to freely operate its forces from forward locations throughout the region," the report warns.
Mr Trump said he had funded the US military with hundreds of billions of dollars since arriving in office in 2017 and the rebuilding is almost complete.
"When I came in two and a half years ago, we were in a very bad position," he said.
"Now we're in a very strong position.
"... Right now, there's nobody that's even close to us, militarily.
"Not even close."

Depression as a Psychoanalytic Problem (Paolo Azzone, UPA, 2012)
Over the past few decades, psychoanalysis and dynamic psychiatry have been steadily stepping back from a key role in the understanding and treatment of depressive disorders. This book investigates the basis for such retreat by delving into the history of medicine, philosophy, religion, and literature. It unveils the social motives for the overwhelming consensus currently gathered by the biomedical model of depression. The book then moves on to discuss at depth psychoanalytic literature on depression and reveals how it possesses an enormous explanatory power for depression symptoms. This approach allows the author to offer readers a comprehensive, dynamically-oriented model of symptom formation in depression. (amazon) (accessible via scribd)

Understanding the crisis: Five core issues in contemporary psychoanalysis (Paolo Azzone, 2018)
https://www.academia.edu/30157698/Understanding_the_crisis_Five_core_issues_in_contemporary_psychoanalysis?email_work_card=view-paper
The psychoanalytic movement is experiencing a serious crisis: its scientific consensus, social standing, and impact on practice in mental health have all been steadily declining over the last decades. This unfortunate process has been variously explained in terms of prevailing hedonistic social values, the political influence of drug companies, and cuts in health-related expenditures. Following a suggestion by Garza Guerrero, we rather believe that the sources of the contemporary crisis in psychoanalysis are to be searched for within its own development and current social and cultural life. Specifically, we think psychoanalysis has failed to bring the revolutionary contribution of interpersonal and intersubjective paradigms to its fuller consequences. Here, we review five core dimensions in which such failure is particularly apparent: (1) an unwitting reliance on the medical model of mental illness; (2) an ontological, concrete understanding of unconscious processes; (3) a manifest failure to fully appreciate the role of extratransference relationships in the patient’s life; (4) a naive and idealized view of the psychoanalyst’s person and role; and (5) a marginal awareness of the impact of group-level unconscious phenomena on the social life of psychoanalytic institutions.

Therapy in the Age of Neuroscience: A Guide for Counsellors and Therapists (Peter Afford, Routledge, 2019-8-12)
Therapy in the Age of Neuroscience: A Guide for Counsellors and Therapists is an essential guide to key areas of neuroscience that inform the theory underlying psychotherapy, and how they can be applied to practice. Laying out the science clearly and accessibly, it outlines what therapists need to know about the human nervous system in order to be able to engage with the subject.
Chapters cover the neuroscience underlying key aspects of therapy such as relationships, emotion, anxiety, trauma and dissociation, the mind-body connection, and the processes which enable therapists to engage deeper aspects of mind and psyche. This book responds to the need for counsellors and therapists to have an accessible and comprehensive guide to how contemporary neuroscience views mind and body.
Therapy in the Age of Neuroscience will appeal to psychotherapists, counsellors and other mental health professionals who wish to learn more about how to integrate neuroscience into their work. (amazon)

The Routledge Companion to Experimental Literature (ed. Joe Bray, Alison Gibbons, Brian McHale, Routledge, 2012)
What is experimental literature? How has experimentation affected the course of literary history, and how is it shaping literary expression today? Literary experiment has always been diverse and challenging, but never more so than in our age of digital media and social networking, when the very category of the literary is coming under intense pressure. How will literature reconfigure itself in the future?
The Routledge Companion to Experimental Literature maps this expansive and multifaceted field, with essays on:
- the history of literary experiment from the beginning of the twentieth century to the present
- the impact of new media on literature, including multimodal literature, digital fiction and code poetry
- the development of experimental genres from graphic narratives and found poetry through to gaming and interactive fiction
- experimental movements from Futurism and Surrealism to Postmodernism, Avant-Pop and Flarf.
Shedding new light on often critically neglected terrain, the contributors introduce this vibrant area, define its current state, and offer exciting new perspectives on its future.
This volume is the ideal introduction for those approaching the study of experimental literature for the first time or looking to further their knowledge. (amazon) (accessible via questia)

Fentanyl, Inc.: How Rogue Chemists Are Creating the Deadliest Wave of the Opioid Epidemic (Ben Westhoff, Atlantic Monthly Press, 2019-9-3)
A deeply human story, Fentanyl, Inc. is the first deep-dive investigation of a hazardous and illicit industry that has created a worldwide epidemic, ravaging communities and overwhelming and confounding government agencies that are challenged to combat it. “A whole new crop of chemicals is radically changing the recreational drug landscape,” writes Ben Westhoff. “These are known as Novel Psychoactive Substances (NPS) and they include replacements for known drugs like heroin, cocaine, ecstasy, and marijuana. They are synthetic, made in a laboratory, and are much more potent than traditional drugs”―and all-too-often tragically lethal.
Drugs like fentanyl, K2, and Spice―and those with arcane acronyms like 25i-NBOMe― were all originally conceived in legitimate laboratories for proper scientific and medicinal purposes. Their formulas were then hijacked and manufactured by rogue chemists, largely in China, who change their molecular structures to stay ahead of the law, making the drugs’ effects impossible to predict. Westhoff has infiltrated this shadowy world. He tracks down the little-known scientists who invented these drugs and inadvertently killed thousands, as well as a mysterious drug baron who turned the law upside down in his home country of New Zealand. Westhoff visits the shady factories in China from which these drugs emanate, providing startling and original reporting on how China’s vast chemical industry operates, and how the Chinese government subsidizes it. Poignantly, he chronicles the lives of addicted users and dealers, families of victims, law enforcement officers, and underground drug awareness organizers in the U.S. and Europe. Together they represent the shocking and riveting full anatomy of a calamity we are just beginning to understand. From its depths, as Westhoff relates, are emerging new strategies that may provide essential long-term solutions to the drug crisis that has affected so many. (amazon) (kindle 2019-8-21)

But Facts Exist: An Enquiry into Psychoanalytic Theorizing (Thomas Freeman, Routledge, 1998)
This book provides an account of the chequered course of international psychoanalysis over the last 100 years, with a lucid critical treatment of the major theoretical developments, illustrated by clinical examples drawn from the author's own vast experience. (amazon) (accessible via Proquest Ebooks Central)
Readers of this
book will find themselves highly stimulated
by the way in which Freeman
consistently addresses indisputable "clinical
facts"—phenomena such as dreams, parapraxes, and psychotic phenomena that occur
both independently and within the analytic
relationship and that are verifiable
through repeated observations independent of any
one observer.
Freeman uses extensive and
vivid clinical material as his starting
point . He carefully distinguishes between clinical
facts and psychoanalytic facts, which emerge only in the
patient-analyst relationship and are therefore not verifiable in
the same way as clinical facts . In a most objective manner, Freeman then
describes and debates in succeeding chapters major psychoanalytic
theories that have been espoused to account for both clinical
and psychoanalytic facts . (Foreword, pp. ix-x)
Otto Rank
Rank
所以 Rank 就是 tragic man
關於 Otto Rank
Otto Rank
但 Kohut 顯然更看重 tragic man (相對於 guilty man)
guilt
或幫 tragic man 理解 guilty man
換句話說 tragic man 必然也是 guilty man
Rank

Deprescribing in Psychiatry (Swapnil Gupta, John Cahill, Rebecca Miller, Oxford University Press, 2019-8-20)
The current state of medicine has witnessed the long-term adverse effects of certain medications, an increased rate of polypharmacy, and a cultural shift that emphasizes patient-centered practice. The term "deprescribing" refers to the optimization of the pharmacological regimen by reducing or cessing medications that incur more risks than benefits.
Many people consider stopping their psychiatric medications, but prescribers may not know how to do this in a collaborative, systematic way. Deprescribing in Psychiatry presents a framework for deprescribing to guide the prescriber-patient dyad through the process of deciding if and when to reduce psychiatric medication, how to go about doing it, and at the same time, acknowledge the inherent risks in such an endeavour.
As the first book on the subject, Deprescribing in Psychiatry stands to serve as a definitive text in this burgeoning field and as a 'rallying call' to raise crucial and topical questions in psychiatric practice, promote innovation, and act as a resource on the current state-of-the-art care. It describes the ins and outs of how clinicians can work closely with their patients to consider whether or not to try decreasing medications. It also discusses the anticipated future research directions, considerations for the field, and emphasizes collaboration with the patient, transparency, and the acknowledgement of uncertainty in psychiatric practice. (amazon) (kindle 2019-8-17)

The Dark Side of Close Relationships II (ed. William R. Cupach, Brian H. Spitzberg, Routledge, 2010)
The Dark Side of Close Relationships II is a completely new and up-to-date version of the original volume published in 1998, featuring new topics and authors. The volume showcases cutting-edge work on important topics by prominent scholars in multiple disciplines. It sheds light on the paradoxical, dialectical, and mystifying facets of human interaction, not merely to elucidate dysfunctional relationship phenomena, but to help readers explore and understand it in relation to a broader understanding about relationships. As previous Dark Side investigations have revealed, negative or dysfunctional outcomes can occur in relationships even though positive and functional ones are expected, and at the same time, positive silver linings are often found in some dark relational clouds. Such nuanced approaches are needed to better account for the complexity of close relationships. A unique and provocative collection, this volume will appeal to relationship researchers in communication, social psychology, family studies, and sociology. (amazon) (accessible via questia)

This wide-ranging work then proceeds to coverage of issues such as gender differences, whether creativity can be enhanced, if creativity is related to poor mental or physical health, and much more.
The book contains boxes covering special interest items, including one-page biographies of famous creative individuals, and activities for a group or individual to test or encourage creativity, as well as references to Internet sites relating to creativity.
- Includes all major theories and perspectives on creativity
- Consolidates recent research into a single source
