https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tzimtzum
In the Jewish mystical tradition, God, before creating the world, needed to undergo a process known as tzimtzum, literally of contraction. God understood that for there to be room for a world, God would have to make room, contract God’s being. In discussing this creative moment, Linzer (2016) writes, ‘Ironically, though, if the creating is to build a space for the other, then such an act of personal expression must also be an act of personal contraction.’
One does not need to believe in a divine being to understand the profound implications of this idea; that living a humane life involves an ethical responsibility to others.

Neville Symington
Bion
10.Neville
Psychology of the Person (2012)

Stealth War: How China Took Over While America's Elite Slept (Robert Spalding, Portfolio, 2019-10-1)
China expert Robert Spalding reveals the shocking success China has had infiltrating American institutions and compromising our national security.
The media often suggest that Russia poses the greatest threat to America's national security, but the real danger lies farther east. While those in power have been distracted and disorderly, China has waged a six-front war on America's economy, military, diplomacy, technology, education, and infrastructure--and they're winning. It's almost too late to undo the shocking, though nearly invisible, victories of the Chinese.
In Stealth War, retired Air Force Brigadier General Robert Spalding reveals China's motives and secret attacks on the West. Chronicling how our leaders have failed to protect us over recent decades, he provides shocking evidence of some of China's most brilliant ploys, including:
• Placing Confucius Institutes in universities across the United States that serve to monitor and control Chinese students on campus and spread communist narratives to unsuspecting American students.
• Offering enormous sums to American experts who create investment funds that funnel technology to China.
• Signing a thirty-year agreement with the US that allows China to share peaceful nuclear technology, ensuring that they have access to American nuclear know-how.
Spalding's concern isn't merely that America could lose its position on the world stage. More urgently, the Chinese Communist Party has a fundamental loathing of the legal protections America grants its people and seeks to create a world without those rights.
Despite all the damage done so far, Spalding shows how it's still possible for the U.S. and the rest of the free world to combat--and win--China's stealth war. (amazon)

The origins of his book on narcissism came about, in Symington's words, when "I started to work on the subject of Psychoanalysis and Religion, and it came to me quite early in that research that the connecting link between the two disciplines was narcissism".

now, this is interesting indeed, for a former priest, to become a psychoanalyst, who focused on narcissiam, and religion, and then the person

Jack
Reacher

The Mirror of the Sea, published in 1906, is an autobiography written by Joseph Conrad. The book provides an excellent in-depth look at Conrad's experiences as a mate on a steamer. A Personal Record, published in 1912, is Conrad's second autobiography. The book provides great insight into Conrad's schooling in Russian Poland as well as his sailing in Marseille. Joseph Conrad was a Polish-British writer who is considered to be one of the greatest authors in English literature. Conrad's books contain much of the elements seen in 19th-century realism but his modernistic writing also influenced many great authors that followed including Faulkner, Hemingway, and Orwell. Conrad wrote classics in many different genres and many of his works were based off his experiences at sea as a British merchant marine. (amazon)

guilt vs. shame
Levinas
Virginia
Woolf
Suddenly,
without giving us time to arrange our thoughts or prepare our phrases, our
guest has left us; and his withdrawal without farewell or ceremony is in
keeping with his mysterious arrival, long years ago, to take up his lodging in
this country. For there was always an air of mystery about him. It was partly
his Polish birth, partly his memorable appearance, partly his preference for living
in the depths of the country, out of ear-shot of gossips …
Heart of Darkness 和 Lord Jim
