Nothing documented by Google happened—because there is no credible evidence that Google Quantum AI or the Willow chip was ever asked “Who built the universe?”
That story appears to be a viral, AI-generated science-fiction narrative circulated through YouTube, Facebook, Medium and LinkedIn in 2026. Some versions claim Willow returned a mysterious code, rejected both God and chance, contacted parallel universes, or answered that “the universe built itself.” I found no corresponding Google announcement, scientific paper, experiment log, researcher interview, or reputable news report. One version even labels its accompanying image “AI Generated Image.”
More fundamentally, Willow is not a conversational AI. It is a 105-qubit quantum processor. Researchers give it precisely constructed quantum circuits and then statistically analyse repeated measurement results. One cannot type a natural-language metaphysical question into Willow and receive a meaningful sentence. Google’s actual published experiment had Willow perform random-circuit sampling, a mathematical benchmark completed in under five minutes—not cosmology, theology or dialogue.
The fabrication probably grew from one genuine but controversial sentence by Google Quantum AI director Hartmut Neven. When introducing Willow, he wrote that its extraordinary performance “lends credence” to David Deutsch’s idea that quantum computation occurs across parallel universes. That was an interpretation of quantum mechanics—not experimental proof of a multiverse, much less contact with its inhabitants. Other interpretations explain the same results without literal parallel worlds.
So the sequence was likely:
Willow performed an extraordinarily difficult sampling calculation.
Neven mentioned the many-worlds interpretation.
Popular media changed “computation across parallel universes” into “accessing another universe.”
Content farms then invented the question, the secret experiment and the terrifying answer.
It is a particularly pure example of what we discussed earlier: the sixth consciousness cannot tolerate an informational hole. A quantum processor produced strings of bits without semantic meaning; the narrative machine supplied a creator, an oracle, a forbidden laboratory and cosmic dread.
Willow did not tell us who built the universe. Human beings looked at Willow and built a story.
